Telemundo/Second Chance star Lorena Rojas dies of cancer at 44

If you're a telenovela fan and watched Second Chance, then you should know Lorena Rojas. The Mexican actress and singer played the lead role in the popular 2005 telemundo series, “El Cuerpo del Deseo.” - aka 'Second Chance'.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 but recovered only for it to come back in 2012. This time in her bones. She dealt with the cancer the best way she could until in November 2014 when she was diagnosed yet again. This time the disease had gone to her liver.

She died yesterday February 16th at her home in Miami surrounded by her family, daughter, and her boyfriend. She was just 44 years old. May her soul rest in peace, amen.

There's a floating corpse at the 82 Division Jetty in Victoria Island (officers mess). It is behind the MLB Saratu vessel in the midst of dirt and floating bottles. Here's hoping the appropriate agency will go retrieve the corpse before it is pushed away or redirected.

Three bombs reportedly went off this afternoon behind Okrika Secondary school, venue of the APC rally in Okrika in Rivers state. Hundreds of APC supporters had gathered at the venue of the rally waiting for the APC leaders when the bombs went off leading to a stampede. More details later.

Multiple blast reported in Biu, Borno, many feared dead...

Multiple bomb blasts have been reported in Biu town in Borno state with many feared dead. The blast occurred in the Yamarkumi area of Biu at about 1pm this afternoon. Yamarkumi is a neighbourhood located along the road that leads to Maiduguri, the state capital. More details later.

Six PDP members defect to APC, LP

Six PDP members of the House of Reps have defected to APC, Labour party and Accord party. The lawmakers announced their defection at the resumed session of the house today February 17th. Three of them moved over to APC, two to Labor party while one moved over to Accord party.

Father of baby who won PZ's Baby Moment competition cries out after wife took another man to represnt him at competition

Oluyinka Davids, the father of Morireluwa, the beautiful girl who won the 2015 PZ Cusson baby moment which held in Lagos on February 1st, has cried out after his wife, Funmi Davids, who he is currently separated from, took another man to represent him at the grand finale of the competition

In an interview with Encomium mag, Oluyinka (above) said he and his wife separated a while back and she moved out of their matrimonial home. He said to get back at him, she took another man, her younger sister's husband, to pose as the father of his daughter during the finale of the competition. He said he got his daughter registered for the competition but that as the little girl was advancing in the competition, she shut him out. I got a copy of the mag and typed out the interview. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described as revealing, the attempt by the All Progressives Congress to politicize the circulation of anti-election leaflets in Gombe state

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh in a statement on Tuesday alerted that the rush with which the APC started raining accusations was “suspect and betrays a subterfuge; a spirited attempt to cover-up, divert attention and distract the security forces from getting to those behind the threats.”

A woman is extremely lucky to be alive after her car drove off a rock wall of a car park and into a harbour and began sinking. The petrified woman was squashed up against the rear window as the front end of the car was submerging in the Waitemata Harbour in Auckland at 3pm on Tuesday.

Fortunately witnesses called emergency services as quick-thinking policemen arrived and sprung straight into action by jumping into the water to save her, one attempting to break the glass with a baton, before the second officer broke the glass with a rock pulled from the water. President Jonathan has sent a list of 8 ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and approval. The list which was read to members of the senate this morning by Senate president, David Mark, had names such as Senator Musiliu Obanikoro from Lagos state, Mrs.Patricia Akwashiki (Nasarawa); Mrs. Hauwa’u Lawan (Jigawa) and Prof nicholas Akise Ada (Benue) in it. Others include Col. Augustine Akobundu retd. (Abia); Mr. Fidelis Nwankwo (Ebonyi); Mr. Kenneth Kobani (Rivers) and Senator Joel Ikenya (Taraba). No date has been fixed for the Senate screening of the nominees.

Three staff of Arik Air, two men & a woman, were arrested by the Murtala Mohammed International Airport security patrol on Sunday Feb. 15th after they were caught siphoning fuel from Arik jet A1. Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka revealed this on a post on his Facebook wall. What he wrote below.

Another town in Borno state has reportedly been captured by Boko Haram militants. Askira Uba was captured over night after the terrorists stormed the small town yesterday. They killed some people, burnt down houses, including the Emir's palace. The place is now reportedly completely deserted as many residents fled the town.

PDP Chieftain, Bode George says he will go into exile if Bola Tinubu's party, the APC, find its way into national government. According to Bode George, if Bola Tinubu gets into power, he would instruct his "boy", the APC Vice Presidential Candidate, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, to immediately pick him up. About eight students of the Obafemi Awolowo University escaped death yesterday Feb. 16th after the 18-Seater bus they were traveling in tumbled three times at Igede, Ado-Ekiti road, at about 4:30pm.

The group of students were on their way to a naming ceremony at Ado-Ekiti when the accident happened. Eye witnesses say only one female student sustained injuries. The accident victims were taken to the General Hospital at Ado-Ekiti after the incident but doctors allegedly refused to attend to them.

"The students presented their Identity Cards, yet, Doctors insisted that they must pay certain fee before they would be attended to. Though, they were later attended to at a private hospital nearby but it was kind of late." a student said

Naira hits N213 to dollar at Bureau De Change, black market

The naira lost N4 to the dollar to sell at N213 at the black market and N210 at the Bureau De Change (BDCs) segment of the official market.

A dealer, who preferred anonymity, told NAN that the depreciation might not be unconnected with the closure of trading at the interbank market by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The dealer also said that the CBN’s decision, which was meant to control speculations in the market, might be responsible for the depreciation.
